Job overview

We are looking to appoint an outstanding Teacher of Chinese or Chinese Mandarin Teaching Assistant to join our successful Modern Foreign Languages department from date of appointment (ASAP) to May 2025 for 2 days a week. This position has the possibility of extension and if offered at £150 per day (09:00-15:30 with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break). The department has a proven track record of embracing innovative approaches to teaching and learning, offers Chinese Mandarin, French, German and Spanish to A Level. We also offer Italian and Latin to KS3.

Beths Grammar School is a Confucius Classroom School and one of the highest performing MEP (Mandarin Excellence Programme) in the country. Chinese is popular in the curriculum, and we previously delivered Cambridge Pre-U and AQA GCSE Chinese as well as HSK examinations. We will be moving forward with A level Edexcel Chinese. The successful candidate will initially be supporting with the MEP programme but can be deployed elsewhere to support with the Chinese curriculum.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing the MEP and improving students' Mandarin listening and speaking skills at one of the UK’s leading schools.

The successful applicant will:

•            Be an innovative and inspirational member of staff,

•            Fluent in Mandarin/native or near native speaker proficiency,

•            A strong academic background or Qualified Teacher Statue (desirable),

•            Up to date subject knowledge and developments for pupils 11-18,

•            Ability to work flexibly to fulfil the requirements of the post,

•            Excellent communication skill with good written and spoken English,

•            Have the ability to plan and deliver lessons which fulfil appropriate learning objectives,

•            Have an enthusiasm for Chinese in general and the ability to transmit this to students,

•            Be proactive and have the ability to create your own resources and willingness to share good practice with other colleagues.
