Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented piano teacher with a passion for jazz and popular music to join our dynamic and growing music department. The successful candidate will have a strong focus on jazz and popular repertoire, inspiring students to develop their skills and creativity.
While this role is primarily focused on piano teaching, there will be exciting opportunities to contribute more widely to the department. Jazz and popular music are areas of significant growth at the school, with regular Open Mic events throughout the year and the school Jazz Band expanding in both size and quality year on year.
In 2023, our music department underwent a major refurbishment, which included the addition of a state-of-the-art recording suite, studio, band room, and Music Technology classroom. This presents an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to take full advantage of these new facilities and help shape the future of our department.
Our piano faculty currently runs a popular ‘Piano Circus’ ensemble, which encourages collaborative playing. We would love for the successful candidate to contribute to this initiative, welcoming new pupils and fostering a love of ensemble music in a fun and creative environment.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- A background, interest, or experience in jazz piano and/or popular music
- Experience teaching a range of students, from beginners to advanced
- Ability to inspire and motivate students through engaging lessons and performances
- A collaborative approach to working with other members of the music department
- Passion for ensemble music and performance
If you are passionate about sharing your love for jazz and popular music and would be interested in making a contribution to our growing department, we would love to hear from you!

About Blundell's Senior School
At Blundell’s we educate young men and women of consequence; young people who have the skills and the confidence to make a meaningful contribution to society. It is our privilege to welcome pupils to our school and then to walk beside them as they negotiate their journey into adulthood.
We are immensely fortunate to be situated in an idyllic location. Here on our 100-acre campus in the Devon hills, our pupils are supported and inspired by teachers dedicated to their success and well-being.
Blundell’s has been around for over 400 years. While we are tremendously proud of our history, we are also excited about innovation as we engage with what it means to be relevant in a world that is undergoing such upheaval and change.
This is a place where children thrive, and where they become ready to contribute to a world desperately in need of thoughtful, courageous, and compassionate leaders. This is a place where they will learn about themselves, where they have the opportunity to practise and rehearse the skills that they will need to live fulfilling lives, both now and in the future.
