Professionalism
All staff are expected to demonstrate professionalism by following the guidelines in the IAA Code of Conduct, which is signed annually by each staff member, the Policy manual, and the employment contract. The standards in these documents include but are not limited to:
- Upholding the professional standards of IAA in work and in community relationships.
- Observing confidentiality regarding all matters relating to employment with the IAA both within the school, as appropriate, and outside of the school
- Upholding all IAA policies and procedures
- Publicly supporting the school and neither organising nor participating in any activities that could bring the reputation of IAA into disrepute

Job Specification:
- Teaching and Learning
- To demonstrate expertise, enthusiasm and creativity in the delivery of the age appropriate pedagogy
- To plan and deliver the correct and agreed curriculum
- To plan and deliver lessons and units of work with clear learning objectives
- Communicate in a clear, logical and sequential manner the learning objectives to students appropriate to their ages
- Meet the learning needs of all students, including late entering students, language learners and students with weak or exceptional academic abilities.
- To evaluate daily and weekly planning ensuring that it builds on current and previous achievement
- To look for opportunities within the curriculum to provide hands on experiences and to use a variety of instructional resources so as not to have content driven solely by textbooks
- To manage and monitor each child’s progress, ensuring all marking, assessments and class record files are kept up to date
- Ensure that assignments are returned promptly with constructive feedback including specific comments on strengths and areas for improvement.
- To use assessment effectively to set realistic and challenging targets for improvement and plan future teaching
- To use questioning and explanation effectively to secure maximum progress.
- To set consistently high expectations for pupils’ behaviour and attitude towards learning
- To reflect on your own and other’s practice, through discussion and observation in order to develop a thorough understanding of effective teaching methods
- Display competence and confidence in using media and technology
- Recognise the importance of the after school programme and extra curricula activities and actively participate in these as directed
- Undertake any professional duty as required by senior management, especially in times of emergency, and understand that these events do particularly occur in an international setting, where staffing and material resources may be limited
Pastoral
- To actively support a consistent approach to implementing the School Guiding Statements
- To implement one’s professional duty of care by following school policies and procedures regarding student behaviour and discipline at all times, including classes, assigned duties, at break times and any other interactions with IAA students
- To understand that student safety is at all times paramount
- To understand and practice vigilant student safeguarding and duty of care
- Plan and implement strategies that encourage student self-discipline, reinforce appropriate behaviour and manage disruptive behaviour
- To celebrate children’s achievements both in and out of school
- To respond sensitively when dealing with children, ensuring that any concern they bring will be dealt with professionally and promptly
- To act as a tutor/class teacher as required by assigned role(s) and deliver associated curricula (e.g. PSHE)
Professional development
- To participate in the school’s self-evaluation procedures, providing constructive feedback as required
- To participate fully in the school’s Staff Development Network by engaging in activities including but not limited to action research, in-service training, lesson observations, professional writing and curriculum development
- To actively participate in staff initiatives and meetings
- Promote good working relationships with others through active leadership and the sharing of ideas, materials and expertise
- To reflect on one’s practice and be open to professional feedback from colleagues
- To keep up-to-date with pedagogical developments
Learning environment
- To provide a safe, stimulating and attractive learning environment, changing displays on a regular basis to celebrate the learning and achievement of children
- To look for opportunities to extend learning beyond the confines of the classroom
- To prepare additional resources to supplement existing resources and to support differentiation
- To responsibly manage and maintain effective use of equipment and learning resources and ensure their return in a timely manner.
Qualifications and Skills:
Required:
- Bachelor’s/undergraduate degree with teaching emphasis or completion of a teacher preparation programme and/or a degree in an academic subject area from a recognized institution or Board as required by the position
- Certification in teaching from a recognised institution and/or Board
- Police clearance to work with children and in schools
- Strong communication skills in the language/s of instruction
- Good interpersonal skills in interacting with students, parents and staff
- Ability to supervise students in non-classroom settings
- Ability to work independently and within a team
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in education or subject related field
- Experience in an internationally accredited school or national/state school in an English-speaking country
- Experience and certification in teaching the school programmes
- Strong communication skills in English (when not the language of instruction)
