Job overview
This is an incredible opportunity to be a part of the development of a unique and brand new type of school. Wildwood Nature School is a charitable, independent, nature-based primary school, committed to offering equal access for all families through free and reduced-fee places. We’re a tiny school of just 19 children aged 4-8 years old. We opened in 2023 and we’ll grow to about 30 children total in 2027 when our oldest children will reach Year 6.
Our ethos is all about supporting children’s well-being. We do this by:
- spending at least half of the day outdoors in nature
- following the Forest School principles
- building a strong, inclusive community
- championing play and creativity
- empowering children with a democratic approach
This job will suit someone who is looking to work in a role that’s very different to mainstream primary teaching, someone who wants to make a difference through doing things differently.
However, you will need to have a minimum of 5 years' primary teaching experience in KS2. We’re looking to appoint a proactive, initiative-taking, teacher who can strengthen our team with KS2 experience and expertise. We’re looking for someone who can develop our child-led curriculum and approach in ways that will excite and challenge the children, across our age range, but particularly at the older end.

Whole-hearted education in the wilds of London
Wildwood Nature School is a non-profit, independent, nature-based primary school for children aged 4-11 years. We offer an alternative to mainstream education with a strong focus on children’s well-being and spending time in nature following the Forest School principles.
Our mission is to create a different kind of school: one where children can learn, play and feel good about who they are, lovingly held by community and nature.
Wildwood Nature School’s ethos is about supporting each child to truly know themselves, be proud of who they are and to have the skills to connect with the people, animals and nature around them. By providing the right environment for children to thrive – caring adults, time in nature, space to roam and play, inspiring learning experiences, freedom to pursue their own interests, personalised and responsive teaching, being a part of the decision-making – we know that children will be able to do what they do most naturally: learn.
Our values:
- Well-being
- Community
- For everybody
- Play
- Empowering our children
- Connection to nature
