ICS Milan is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader for the position of Principal of Secondary. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Principal to infuse the schools mission and vision at ICS.
They will be responsible for providing visionary leadership, fostering a positive learning environment, and ensuring the effective implementation of the IB DP, and IGCSE curriculum. Duties include complete responsibility for all aspects of curriculum and general middle and high school life and recruitment.
The candidate will be required to keep a very high-quality level of teaching and learning and contribute to developing excellent curricular and extracurricular activities. They will also be responsible for planning and implementation of school new projects.
The role
- To lead, inspire and guide the Secondary School including staff, students and parents to ensure the highest of standards of learning and achievement;
- To ensure the effective and efficient day-to-day operations of the Secondary School;
- To make a strong contribution to the Senior Leadership Team;
- To ensure that the ICS mission and core values are at the centre of all Secondary developments;
- To model the mission and vision of Globeducate to ‘prepare each student to be a global citizen who can shape the world.’
Reports to
- Executive Principal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively promote a love of learning in line with our mission and vision;
- Promote a culture of high achievement amongst students;
- Lead, develop and enhance the quality of teaching and learning across Secondary;
- Actively promote outstanding teaching and learning through demonstration, co-teaching peer observation and mentoring of the Secondary team;
- Report regularly, to the Executive Principal, on the quality of teaching and learning across Secondary;
- Ensure reports and ongoing assessment are effective in providing accurate information on academic progress, attitude to learning and future targets;
- Maintain up to date knowledge of outstanding Secondary practice and curriculum developments and apply that knowledge to improve quality;
- Keep abreast of all IBDP and IGCSE developments and updates and updates.
Admissions and Marketing:
- Promote our reputation as an inclusive international and paritaria school in Milan;
- Liaise with Admissions and actively engage with prospective parents and students;
- Promote achievement in IGCSE and IBDP.
Management of Resources and Talent:
- Contribute to the strategic vision by implementing School Development plans to help the school achieve long term strategic goals;
- Be responsible for all day-to-day operations of the Secondary School;
- Be responsible for the overall welfare of the Secondary Students;
- Establish a purposeful and safe learning environment in line with child safeguarding policies and promote child safeguarding awareness amongst staff;
- Maintain high levels of behaviour and student discipline in line with school policies and ethos;
- Effectively manage budgets and expenditure in line with our strategic vision;
- Management of individual staff issues, including honest and transparent recommendations to the Executive Principal about contract renewal or release;
- Challenge non-compliance to school policies in an assertive but friendly manner.
Develop talent:
- Coach, mentor and develop colleagues to meet their potential;
- Oversee Secondary staff induction and regular professional development meetings;
- Oversee Talent Review of staff, including formal appraisal against professional standards and work scrutiny.
Person Specifications and Experience:
- Experience and evidence of a successful senior leadership position;
- Experience of raising standards and clear evidence in the pursuit of excellence;
- Strong knowledge of teaching the IB and IGCSE.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a senior leadership position equivalent to a Deputy/Head of Secondary School;
- Relevant degree and teaching qualifications;
- Hold a master’s degree in education NPQH or equivalent qualification.

ICS Milan offers a stimulating learning journey which is defined by a rich and well-structured curriculum that integrates the following frameworks:
EARLY YEARS
- The British Early Years Foundation Stage, a play-based framework, featuring the learning and development goals for young children from birth to five years.
PRIMARY SCHOOL
- The Cambridge Primary Programme, covering English and maths.
- The IPC - International Primary Curriculum, covering the topic-based subjects (science, social studies, geography, history, art and international mindedness).
- National recommendations for the curriculum as established by the Italian Ministry of Education for the Italian language and culture programme. In the 2016/17 academic year, ICS Milan was granted officially recognised school status (parità).
SECONDARY SCHOOL
ICS Secondary School has been designed to offer the IB Programme of the International Baccalaureate:
- Middle Years Programme for students from 11 to 16 years old.
- IB Diploma programme 17-18 years old.
As a Scuola Paritaria, our students have the flexibility to move between the Italian and international curriculum, opting to complete the Scuola Media and sit the Licenza Media exams with us, and move back to the Italian system for Liceo, or, to continue with us to complete their Scuola Superiore studies in 4 years alongside the IB, MYP and DP.
