About the area
If you are local, you might have heard of Oldham, but if not, you may not know much about the town. Oldham is the gateway to Manchester City Centre, one of the most vibrant cities in the country, well known for its nightlife, entertainment and shopping. You can travel from Manchester to Oldham by train, tram, bus or car in well under 30 minutes. As well as the bright lights of Manchester, the local area is well known for its outstanding natural beauty. As well as being the gateway to Manchester, we’re also the gateway to the Pennines. Saddleworth Moor, Tandle Hill country park and Daisy Nook are on our door step. Accommodation is also readily available at some very competitive prices. Manchester City Centre has an abundance of high-quality apartments, all a stone’s throw from the amazing night life and shopping.
About the role:
We are seeking to appoint from the 1st May 2025 or sooner if possible a Raising Standards Leader in English. This is a key position within the faculty and an excellent opportunity to shape the role, whilst at the same time advance your career. It is highly suitable for those who wish to become a curriculum leader/head of faculty and even progress to senior leadership.
Our school
The Hathershaw College is a very successful and oversubscribed 11-16 Academy. You will see from our Ofsted report that we have retained our good status. I would advise you to read the excellent report before applying. Key highlights from this include: “Pupils behave sensibly around the school and in lessons. They are respectful to other pupils, staff and visitors.” “Staff value the steps that leaders have taken to ease their workload and support their well-being.” Senior leaders have taken radical steps to manage the workload and well-being of colleagues by reducing unnecessary burdens and bureaucracy. These actions were rated highly in the most recent staff survey, which takes place on annual basis.
Our trust
We are a proud member of The Pinnacle Learning Trust which consists of ourselves, Oldham Sixth Form College, Werneth Primary School, Broadfield Primary School and Alexandra Park Junior School. We are also well located with good public transport links and excellent access to the motorway network. Our trust celebrates students’ uniqueness and supports our young people to flourish and become responsible, successful citizens who contribute positively to their communities. Our Trust invests in each member of staff, offering them professional development opportunities, including designation as Evidence Leads in Education for the Research School; delivery of school-to-school support; professional development facilitation and support for trainee teachers. Staff have access to opportunities to develop their teaching practice, such as training on metacognition, virtual classroom coaching and retrieval practice. As a trust, we celebrate diversity by encouraging an understanding of our communities, faiths and cultures.
