Job overview

Blaise High school is looking to recruit Teaching Assistants for our Resource Base.

The Resource Base is representative of all of our values at Blaise High School. It is a centre of education for our most vulnerable students and for those students who require the highest level of support to give them equality in life. We aspire to achieve strong outcomes for the students and to prepare them for independent living wherever possible. We operate the Resource Base with absolute integrity having strong moral principles with the students, and we are extremely proud of our Resource Base students and staff, just as we are with all members of the school community. Class sizes are small with a maximum of 10 students, and there is a happy and positive atmosphere for children to develop within.

Working with students and the team of staff in the Resource Base provides a combination of challenge and reward, with a huge sense of achievement evident for many students on a daily basis. To be a successful member of the team you need to have empathy, compassion, resilience, and an absolute belief that all students are capable of achievement. You need to share our commitment that all students deserve high aspirations that can be achieved through a balance of individual, personal and academic achievement.

Blaise High School is on a journey of rapid improvement to becoming one of the very best schools in the entire country for progress made. The staff at the school share a common purpose; that is the eradication of educational disadvantage in North Bristol. The staff at the school are committed to the school’s values of Aspiration, Integrity and Pride. The school’s leadership are not only committed to developing a school grounded in academic success, and the development of character, but also want to build a school in which workload for teachers is sensible, manageable and well thought out. In our most recent staff survey 96% of staff said that they were proud to work at the school and planned to be here in two years time. Blaise High School serves a diverse, and vibrant community, with high levels of deprivation. It has a Resource Base within the school and this is something we are very proud of. At Blaise High School we teach in a completely disruption free environment. We believe in evidence led approaches to teaching, and we teach in a traditional manner built around explicit and direct instruction. We firmly believe that teachers are the experts in the room, and teach from a high quality, knowledge - rich curriculum. For us, knowledge - rich does not mean knowledge heavy. We carefully select what we teach our children as we know that this is the most important decision we can make in a school. All of the knowledge that we teach children enables them to climb their own personal mountains to the very best universities in the country, or careers of their choosing.

How do we reduce workload for teachers?

  • High quality centralised curriculum resources.
  • Live marking in lessons rather than work taken home
  • Centralised behaviour systems
  • Visible and supportive SLT
  • No after school meetings
  • Carefully planned deadlines
  • Free lunch for every duty.

These are only some of the things that we have introduced to allow teachers to focus on the main thing, teaching great lessons to our children.

Greenshaw Learning Trust – About us

The Greenshaw Learning Trust (GLT) provides an effective structure for schools to achieve real benefits from school to-school collaboration, and a culture of trust and openness that promotes honest and transparent dialogue and mutual support.

At the heart of the Trust is proven school improvement advice and guidance – with regular meetings with school leaders, input from specialist primary and secondary experts and staff training and development in all our schools.

All schools in the Trust receive expert advice and fast -response support on budget planning and monitoring, payroll, human resources, employment and legal advice, purchasing, capital projects, admissions, policy development and audit. Our catering team provides advice and guidance on meeting the statutory responsibilities for food standards, healthy eating and safety, and helps our schools achieve higher take-up of meals and significant cost savings through quality improvement and the central procurement of food supplies.

Each school’s local governing body receives support and advice to ensure that they can contribute effectively to the governance and leadership of their school, including tailored guidance to chairs and clerks and governor training.

The Greenshaw Learning Trust is committed to meeting the needs of every student – our schools offer a wide range of special needs provision and across the Trust we have extensive expertise in behaviour, attendance, family liaison and therapies to support our students and their teachers.
