Hours: Permanent; All-through; 35 days annual leave (+ 8 bank holidays)

We are seeking an experienced and professional School Business Manager to lead the provision of the school's facilities, catering and administration. You will be the main contact between TCES East London and the centralised functions of finance, human resources, referrals and IT. You will work closely with the Headteacher and the Company Business Manager to ensure that the school is able to meet ISS regulations and Ofsted requirements at all time. The role line manages a small school office team, facilities coordinator, chef and kitchen assistant. You will be accountable for the upkeep of the school building, its utilities and security. The School Business Manager is also pupil facing, and a member of the school's senior leadership team, modelling the TCES community values, safe and professional working practices.

You will also be proficient in data management, the use of MIS systems, and skilled in Microsoft Excel.

TCES is an independent social enterprise providing specialist education based in London, supporting exceptional neurodiverse children and young people aged 7 to 19 who have special educational needs and disabilities typically associated with autism, social emotional and mental health needs and associated disorders. Most of them will have experienced multiple placement breakdowns and significant trauma, often resulting in behaviour that challenges. On average pupils will have been excluded from other provisions up to three times before reaching us and had significant periods out of education.

TCES pupils learn at one of our two schools, at our Create Learning Primary site in Barking, through our Create in the Community service or within our Home Learning service. Our Create in the Community and Create Learning Primary services support our most complex and vulnerable pupils, with our schools: TCES East London and TCES North West London supporting those who are able to access learning within a school environment. When they are ready, we aim for pupils to step down from Create into one of our main schools, our Sixth Form, or into a mainstream provision.

Essential requirements to be successful in the role are:  

  • Level 4, 5 or 6 Diploma in School Business Management (formerly CSBM, DSBM or ADSBM) and/or relevant experience in a School Business role.
  • Experience of supporting neurodiverse children, or with Autism (ASC) and/or Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs (SEMH) and an understanding of potential implications for communication, learning and behaviour; able to promote de-escalation and emotional regulation, supporting young people in forming and sustaining effective relationships.
  • Financial management experience including budget monitoring and setting, and procurement.
  • Advanced IT skills, including a good understanding of ICT systems and the ability to develop them with experience of a school-based MIS, preferably SIMS/Scholar Pack.
  • Substantial successful team management, motivation and staff development experience, preferably across Finance, Procurement,ICT, HR and/or Facilities Management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan workloads and prioritise tasks, and high levels of attention to detail.
  • Resilient, committed, and a hard worker - able to keep going in the face of adversity and never giving up.
