If you are excited by the opportunity of consolidating your teaching skills in a school
filled with potential and opportunity for growth, if you are passionate about being part
of a team where highly effective teaching ensures all children thrive both in and out of
the classroom and if you love finding ways of ensuring academic rigour through
modern, liberal approaches to learning, ICS may be the next learning community for
you!
About Us
The International Community School, Amman, is an independent, private and
non-profit school, owned by the Society for the International Community in Jordan
(SICJ), founded in 1953. The International Community School is proud to be one of the
longest-established international schools in Jordan and one of the most international
of international schools in the Middle East. Our broad curriculum is grounded in the
English National Curriculum with a strong international influence. For further
information about ICS, please visit our website at www.ics.edu.jo.
About You
ICS is looking to appoint an outstanding and aspirational Arts Teacher (ability to teach
Arts to A level preferred) to join our talented, energetic, cohesive and friendly
Secondary Team from August 2024. You are an outstanding practitioner who builds
strong relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues and is committed to ensuring
high standards for student learning.
ICS is in the enviable position of being able to create and develop a unique curriculum,
drawing on the very best of international experiences, mindful of the rich cultural
opportunities of our host country and the breadth of intercultural diversity within our
community. As a class-based leader, you are confident in understanding the warp and
the weft of outstanding learning in secondary; a commitment to keeping students at
the heart of your decisions while being able to see student learning and the daily life of
a school through multiple lenses is essential.
You understand the pastoral needs of secondary students and will support teachers
with student wellbeing as well as ensuring consistency in the delivery of highly
effective practice across each year group. Essential to this role are your outstanding
skills in collaborating with other staff members as well as an understanding of how to
inspire and support the professional growth of your team and ICS colleagues.
You will be excited to help move the school forward through an embedded culture of
self evaluation and review that ensures evidence-driven decisions are made within and
by a team. As a leader, embracing #weareics, you should be optimistic and
open-minded, collaborative and kind, and always curious about how your own practice
and the practice of your team can better support each and every student, true to the
school’s vision statement and #thrive approach.
You champion student opportunities beyond the classroom in ensuring that every
child is provided with a unique and fulfilling co-curricular experience. You understand
that at the heart of a rich and diverse co-curricular programme are people both
sharing and discovering their own passions; these experiences for staff should be just
as fulfilling as the opportunities we provide for students.
In return
ICS offers a highly competitive package including: a generous, tax-free salary for the
duration of the two years contract; annual flights for staff and families; a
comprehensive programme of Continuous Professional Learning; a thorough and
detailed induction programme; and other benefits such as free tuition for up to three
children, utilities allowance and medical insurance.
Information on applying to ICS
The International Community School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the
welfare of children. Applicants must be prepared to undergo stringent child protection
screening including checks with past employers and both local and international Police
checks as appropriate including the ICPC where possible.
The deadline for applications will be by July 15th, 2024. Virtual interviews
will start to take place as soon as possible. Due to the number of applications expected,
only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

The International Community School, Amman, is a school with a bold vision and a big heart. We won the 2020 International School Awards, received the 2019 GESS Community Award for Citizenship, and became the first international school in the world to be awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM). One of the most international of international schools in the Middle East, ICS is proud to offer ‘the world in one classroom', and, through its determination that all stakeholders make an impact in everything they do, adopts a trailblazing determination to engage with and serve its local, regional and global community. Fully accredited by CIS and BSO, and a full member of BSME and COBIS, ICS identifies and hybridises the very best of global pedagogy and practice, and aims, at all times, to do things differently and well.
The school is located on a purpose-built, modern campus, surrounded by the hills and fields of rural Na’our but only a short drive from the life and energy of suburban and urban Amman. The campus boasts the full selection of attractive and specialist facilities demanded by the 21st Century, British curriculum the school provides. Meanwhile, work continues on an exciting campus development. A new "double size" sports hall has now been completed and construction of a Swimming Pool complex, Performing Arts Centre and other campus upgrades are planned over the coming years. The school follows a modified version of the Early Years Framework and the National Curriculum for England and Wales, adapted to the school’s international and local context. Year 11 and Year 13 students sit IGCSEs and A Levels, prior to applying to some of the best universities in the world. In 2022 the school celebrated its best GCSE and A level results in the school's 69 year history.
As a not-for-profit school accountable to the very community it serves, it is able to sustain a constant and authentic orbit around the individual child at all times. A pioneer by nature, the school encourages both staff and students to enjoy the space to create, innovate and take risks. We are proud to be genuinely inclusive, both on admission and through curriculum, learning and teaching, and are able to cater for the needs of a diverse student cohort of over 700 students, from the most able Oxbridge or Ivy League aspirant to children with mild to moderate SEND, not to mention a growing group of students at an early stage of their English language acquisition.
In 2023 the school is celebrating its 70th Anniversary and with campus development, an ever evolving curriculum offer and a dynamic, innovative approach to all we do ICS is an exciting and fulfilling place to work.
Perched 1000m above the timeless, mystical Dead Sea, Amman is one of the hidden gems of the region - a modern, cosmopolitan city, with a vibrant life both night and day, and a diverse, international population. One of the most welcoming countries in the world, Jordan provides a safe and family-friendly environment, rooted in foundations more ancient than anywhere else on the planet, but with an influence and outlook that belie its small size, not to mention an outstanding cuisine which will never disappoint. An outdoor enthusiast’s playground, Jordan prides itself on a rich array of global wonders, from historic Petra to the deserts of Wadi Rum, and from the forested hills of Ajloun to the teeming reefs of the Red Sea. Whilst Amman enjoys four seasons, with snow and ice not uncommon each winter, its 310 days of sunshine every year have an inevitable effect on the wellbeing of its citizens, whose warmth has welcomed the displaced and the relocated from around the region and the world for over 100 years.
ICS offers a highly competitive package, including:
- A generous, tax-free salary for the duration of a two-year contract;
