The Wandsworth Hospital and Home Tuition Service (HHTS) has an exciting opportunity for an Educational Care Coordinator (ECC) to join our service.

The role would predominantly involve supporting pupils aged 11 – 17, but the successful candidate will be able to develop their expertise through working across the service as needed as part of our skilled, multi-disciplinary team.

We are looking for an outstanding, innovative, flexible and compassionate person who is willing and able to engage vulnerable children who have additional needs, in particular Emotional Based School Avoidance (EBSA).

The successful applicant will be joining our creative, caring and enthusiastic team and will receive training to support you in your role and to further develop your professional expertise.

About the School

HHTS is a Hospital School and Medical Pupil Referral Unit that provides education for a diverse range of students aged 5-18 who are experiencing a severe or chronic illness and/or have mental health issues.

HHTS encompasses St George’s Hospital, CAMHS School, the Compass Programme, Mental Health Outreach and Corner House; the National Deaf CAMHS inpatient unit.

The school was graded 'Outstanding' once again in the 2023 inspection and is a UNICEF Rights Respecting School with a strong focus on excellence and wellbeing for students and staff. The school has also made a commitment to Anti-Racism and is working towards the Carnegie Anti-Racist Award.

Our students have the opportunity to make accelerated progress through personalised learning programmes delivered in small groups or in one-to-one tuition. Staff and students build positive nurturing relationships, which enable students to grow in confidence, self-acceptance and compassion for all.

The successful applicant will predominantly be based within the Compass classrooms, which are classrooms on the site of Ernest Bevin Academy, situated a short walking distance from Tooting Bec Underground station, with excellent transport links.

About the Compass Programme

The Compass Programme is a part-time educational provision for students in year 9 -11, whose mental health and wellbeing are a barrier to accessing full time education. All students have an EHCP and many have additional educational needs, such as autism, ADHD and learning difficulties. Many of our students also present as students with EBSA (emotional based school avoidance). The programme focuses on re-engaging students in education and has multiple phases to support a young person to attend school once again. Each young person has a wide network of multi-disciplinary professionals and requires bespoke intervention to support them to make social and academic progress whilst with us, and to reintegrate them to school within the community.

The ideal candidate:

• Has experience within an education and/or care setting

• Is flexible and adaptable and able to work as part of a team

• Has very good numeracy and literacy skills

• Has experience working with pupils for whom English is not their first or sole language

• Has experience working with young people of secondary age with a range of special educational needs and/or SEMH
