Role and Responsibilities
Primarily, the Coordinator(s) of Student Support are Learning Leaders, with the responsibility for facilitating both the development of the AISJ curriculum/ interventions for the department and the implementation of that curriculum/intervention.
Scholar Supports includes Learning Support Department (mild, moderate, and intensive), Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Gifted and Talented Education, English Language Learning, and Speech and Language. The coordinator will assist in the organization, curriculum, and leadership in support services.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
● Ensure that the appropriate curriculum, including ILP goals, are up to date.
● Assist in streamlining the ILP processes for all services
● Decide on and implement yearly objectives for the department
● Promote the values and mission of the school within the department
● Develop and ensure the implementation of core learning experiences within your subject area
● Collaborate on the development of assessment tools and the results of such tools in student learning
● Assist and guide the analysis of assessment to determine to determine next steps
● Monitor and make recommendations for psycho-educational testing to ensure there is enough accurate information about each student's needs
● Make recommendations for in house and outside services (Speech/Language therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Psychotherapy) if necessary
● Take responsibility for the timely order of teaching resources, textbooks, departmental orders, etc.
● Keep up-to-date on curriculum developments and trends in the field of learning disabilities
● Hold regular department meetings to review the program, plan and implement improvements and changes within the context of the school curriculum, and monitor their effectiveness
● Meet regularly with department faculty to ensure coherence and support of programs
● Attend and contribute to Team Leader meetings
● Develop parent materials related to departmental work
● Assist counselor and principals with student admissions process when there is evidence of a disability**
● Make decisions with counselor about placement in courses given individual student profiles (individual program design)
● Lead and facilitate ILP (Individualized Learning Plan) meetings with content area teachers as a means of communication and a tool for consistency in delivering services to students with specific learning needs
● Coordinate student referrals for learning support with the Counselor
● Allocate and lead case management responsibilities for department members
● Promote and maintain a positive working environment in the department
● Familiarize new department members with departmental systems and methodology
Guide the reporting process within your department
● Visit the classes of department members and encourage this as a departmental practice among colleagues
● Collaborate with all teachers and provide support to teachers for modifications, accommodations and differentiation
● Assist in supporting an MTSS and PBIS framework
● Maintain vertical learning support department connections to ensure successful transitions between divisions
● Ensure that students are receiving appropriate accommodations and modifications within classrooms, on assessments, and on formal standardized assessments
● Advise the principals on departmental matters
● Meet regularly with the vertical scholar support director and principles to ensure program continuity, alignment, and transitions between divisions
● Keep an inventory of all departmental resources
● Maintain updated confidential student files in locked cabinet within the department

● Acting as a resource of disability expertise and theories of pedagogy in working with students with special needs for colleagues, students and parents
