Lilian Baylis Technology School is a mixed, 11-18, inner city school located in a new building at Vauxhall, London. We are a multicultural community school, which serves the local community, and we view this as one of our key strengths. We value the diversity of our school, and strive to ensure that our students feel represented, both at whole school level and within the curriculum.

In addition to this, we have outstanding facilities for our students and teachers, including electronic whiteboards and visualisers in all rooms, as well as laptops for all staff. Teachers usually have their own classroom base for all their lessons and there are plentiful resources for teaching and the curriculum.

Our students are well behaved and ambitious, and they also value the school. All visitors to the school always comment on the calm and productive atmosphere of lessons. Our last OfSTED inspection stated we were ‘outstanding’ for all areas of inspection.

Student progress at both GCSE and A Level across the school is above national average. In particular, we are highly effective at bridging the gaps between disadvantaged students and non-disadvantaged students. We run an extensive intervention programme, at Key Stage 3, which means students who have low prior attainment are able to work on “catching-up” with their peers.

At KS3 the Creative Arts team has developed a highly praised decolonised curriculum that is highly engaging, resulting in strong take up levels at Key Stage 4. In particular, the curriculum in Music is diverse and focused on providing students with knowledge and skills across a number of multicultural genres, as well as providing enriching experiences with a range of visits and external workshops to bring about an understanding of music in the wider world context. We also have a number of peripatetic teachers, including for violin, drums, guitar and piano, as well as a vocal coach. These teachers offer lessons to a number of students across both key stages 4 & 5.

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic colleague to join our Creative Arts team as a Subject Leader of Music. The successful candidate will work across both key stage 3 & 4 and Line Manage the work of the peripatetic staff, as well as coordinate whole school music events, working in liaison with the Subject Lead for Drama.

This is an exciting opportunity for both a teacher who is looking for their first Leadership role, or an experienced Leader of Music who is looking for a fresh challenge. We offer a highly supportive and committed working environment within a culture of success. Our CPD provision is extensive and follows a research driven approach, which means that our teachers are at the leading edge of professional practice.
