Job overview
Inner London Payscale
Required from January 2025
“This is a very happy and caring school. Leaders know pupils and their families well. One pupil, typical of many, described the school as ‘home.’” (OFSTED 2023)
Lilian Baylis Technology School is a mixed, 11-18, inner city school located in a new building at Vauxhall, London. We are a multicultural community school, which serves the local community, and we view this as one of our key strengths. We value the diversity of our school, and strive to ensure that our students feel represented, both at whole school level and within the curriculum.
We also have outstanding facilities for our students and teachers, including electronic whiteboards and visualisers in all rooms, as well as laptops for all staff. The science department is well resourced and all teaching takes place in modern, well equipped labs. There is also great support for the science team in the delivery of the curriculum, including two full time science technicians to organise and assist in science practicals, as well as a full time science tutor who works with Years 12 & 13.
Our students are well behaved and ambitious, and they also value the school. All visitors to the school always comment on the calm and productive atmosphere of lessons. Our last OfSTED inspection stated we were ‘outstanding’ across all aspects.
At KS3 the Science team has developed a highly praised curriculum that engages and enthuses students to study science further. We also run an extensive intervention programme at Key Stage 3, which means students who have low prior attainment are able to work on “catching-up” with their peers, including “nurture” groups from Years 7 to 11 in Science, maths and English.
At KS4 students study either GCSE Combined Science or Triple Science and student progress at this Key Stage demonstrates that we are highly effective at bridging the gaps between disadvantaged students and non-disadvantaged students. At KS5 we offer A-level Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as well as BTECs in Applied Science and Applied Human Biology. These are all very popular subjects. In addition, those that study a science course at Key Stage 5 generally go on to study a related degree at university, including a substantial proportion of students gaining places at Russell Group Universities.
We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic colleague to join the Science team as a teacher of Science (teaching across all key stages). The team has several outstanding practitioners, as well as a Lead Practitioner and all teachers are passionate about both the subject and the students. This is an exciting opportunity for both a teacher doing their ECT Induction, or an experienced teacher of Science who is looking for a fresh challenge. We offer a highly supportive and committed working environment within a culture of success. Our CPD provision is extensive and follows a research driven approach, which means that our teachers are at the leading edge of professional practice.
