Overall Description:


The Primary librarian will take responsibility for the smooth running of the library. The Primary Librarian will liaise with other members of the information services team to ensure the libraries across campus are being used effectively. The role will involve teaching of Primary aged students in how to use the library and conduct online research in line with our safe guarding policy.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Teaching and Learning:

• Implement, refine and consolidate library policies and practices which will best serve the school community.

• Develop and implement and Information Literacy and Literature Program.

• Review and implement the Information Skills Programme.

• Organise cultural and other activities e.g. Book Week, Chinese New Year, World Book Day. Maintain prominence of reading as a learning and leisure activity

• Provide lunch time access for students

• Liaise with Year Teams regarding units of work and resources and assistance needed.

• Train, organize and supervise of Library Monitors

• Ensure the Libraries are active school entities, and are attractive and safe places for students and staff alike.

• Participate in extra curricular activities.

Management and Administration:

• Lead the Library Team.

• Ensure effective communication with Lower Primary and Upper Primary Co-ordinator sand with Primary teaching staff

• Maintain and update computer records

• Maintain library equipment, student OPACS and mainframe computer – safety and operations.

• Order and purchase new acquisitions in consultation with other staff

• Liaise with EAL teacher as to space allocation and requirements for small group teaching in library space.

• Produce regular updates as to student overdue lists, send letter to parents regarding book losses, recoup monies where necessary, and ensure replacement items are acquired.

• At designated time, produce budget requests and stock take reports for Principal.

• Maintain effective records of library suppliers, budget claims, Information Skills programme, software updates and curriculum records.


These duties may be amended to meet the changing demands of the school at the discretion of the School Leadership.


Professional Development:

As a reflective learner who takes responsibility for their professional development and progression the librarian is expected to make full use of the opportunities and training provided by the school.


Appraisal:

There will be an annual review undertaken by the SLT

Performance will be measured against the skills and responsibilities (including the qualities listed above) and specific targets negotiated annually as part of performance management.
