Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher of computer science to join our motivated and supportive Technology Faculty.   The successful candidate will need to be an enthusiastic, inspiring and motivating teacher who can demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and will ensure students have high aspirations and achieve their best. The role would suit an experienced teacher or an ambitious and skilled new teacher and both full time and part time applications will be considered.

This position is available due to an expansion in the subject. Computing is taught to all of years 7 and 8, and it is very popular in year 9 with 7 classes being taught. At GCSE we offer IT and computer science, and at A-Level we offer computer science, BTEC IT and BTEC Esports.

The Faculty is well led and the team are enthusiastic, committed and supportive. We have a strong commitment to continuous professional development and teacher work-life balance. For more information about the Technology Faculty, please see the Faculty information sheet included in this pack. The curriculum maps are located on the school website (https://birchwoodonline.co.uk/students/technology-faculty/#Courses).

Birchwood is a successful 11-18 mixed  academy with 1435 students on roll. We are very proud of our school, where students not only leave with strong academic qualifications but also as well-rounded individuals with a sense of responsibility and a willingness to contribute to both the economy and society in general. At Birchwood, we are rightly proud of our 'comprehensive' ethos and inclusive philosophy where the academically gifted achieve top grades at A Level and GCSE, going on in record numbers to Russell Group Universities.  Conversely, those students who need more help are encouraged to progress in a caring and supportive learning environment. As a result, all our school leavers go on to further education or a chosen career with no one contributing to the governments 'not in education, employment or training’ (NEET) statistics.

Ofsted concurred when they inspected the school in June 2019 – the inspection report highlights our inclusive and balanced approach towards education, ensuring that children achieve well but are also supported and cared for effectively, as well as being given excellent opportunities in terms of enrichment, leadership development and extra-curricular activities.

As a school we pride ourselves on the high expectations we make of students and staff, prioritising excellence in both lesson preparation and delivery in the classroom. In all, Birchwood is a dynamic and supportive environment in which staff and students work with a clear sense of purpose, community and commitment.
