Job overview

We refer to ourselves as 'the school with a heart, in the town with a heart' here at Fleetwood High School.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join us in the school’s journey towards ‘outstanding.’

We are seeking to appoint an innovative, and highly skilled Teacher of Computing for a period of Maternity Cover. The post will initially be for two terms with the possibility to be extended to one year.

Fleetwood High School is on an exciting journey towards excellence. Offering provision for 1010 students from Year 7 through to Year 11. There is much to be celebrated within the school and, for the successful candidate, this position offers a fantastic opportunity to shape and enhance the life chances of our pupils so that they go on to be successful in their next stage of their educational journey. To ensure that we continue and strengthen the trajectory of rapid improvement, we are keen to attract exceptional colleagues to join the staff community to realise the potential which Fleetwood pupils clearly have.

We are keen to attract the right calibre of professional to work alongside our dedicated team of staff within our 'Fleetwood Way;' a colleague who shares our vision and commitment to a knowledge-rich curriculum and a more traditional approach to teaching and behaviour.

We believe that schools must teach powerful knowledge, ’the best that has been thought and said’ and an ‘entitlement curriculum’ for all, with an underpinning philosophy that ‘education for all should confer the benefits associated with private education.'

Excellent teaching must sit alongside a carefully considered and sequenced curriculum, implemented successfully and consistently through a great school culture. We have a strong, yet developing behaviour system, where expectations and routines are explicitly taught and deliberately practised. We are creating a learning culture that is warm and strict, disciplined and respectful, where teachers can focus on teaching and pupils can focus on learning, this underpins everything. There needs to be relentless consistency with the implementation of our procedures and policies in every classroom, and overcommunication of the ‘why’ to all stakeholders, to help ensure impeccable behaviour.

The ideal candidate will be fully aligned to our vision, mission and our values. We are seeking someone who can walk the walk and be a beacon a beacon of excellent practice in a classroom.

I hope you can see that this is an exciting time to join our school. If you are considering applying for this role, you will need to have ambition for the pupils as well as for yourself. We want colleagues who are prepared to push themselves professionally to develop their skills and experiences, so that the young people of Fleetwood get the very best we can offer them.

If you would be a part of our exciting journey then please read on:

We are looking for:

  • A well-qualified, industrious and talented team player who believes in lifelong learning and has a passion for the subject and an ability to bring it to life in classroom settings
  • A teacher who is committed to delivering active and engaging learning, which enthuses young people and motivates them to want to succeed
  • A teacher who can promote a love and passion of learning and stimulate our pupils intellectual curiosity
  • A teacher who can set targets that stretch and challenge students of all backgrounds, abilities and dispositions.
  • A teacher with a continued commitment to their own professional development

We can offer you:

  • Committed, honest and proud pupils who give 100% effort
  • A state of the art PFI building with first class facilities, including a bespoke dance studio, 3G astroturf pitch, 10 hi-tech Science Labs, 4 bespoke ICT suites, state of the art recording studio, newly refurbished student learning resource centre amongst many other modern facilities
  • Well-equipped classrooms with an average class size of just 25 students
  • A generous allowance for CPD study and lesson planning time
  • Free onsite parking, free access to our onsite gym and access to our free staff meals scheme

Please note that in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022 an online search will be carried out as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.

You are advised to consider applying for this vacancy as soon as possible as in some instances vacancies are closed as soon as a sufficient number of applications have been received

About Fleetwood High School

Fleetwood High School

the school with a heart, in the town with a heart

Headteacher - Richard Barnes

Our modern state of the art school is in the coastal town of Fleetwood, conveniently  located on the stunning Fylde coast local to Lytham, Thornton, Poulton-Le-Fylde and with great motorway links to the Lake District, Manchester and Liverpool; making our school accessible to and from all of these areas.

The Fylde area has been recognised as one of ‘The Best Places to Live’ in a recent Sunday Times guide, with Fylde and Wyre being comprised of many quaint towns and villages. Its historic streets are full of many fashionable independent shops, restaurants and public houses. For more information on the local area please visit:

http://www.nextstepblackpool.com/life/fylde-and-wyre/

The school is slightly larger than average (1060 on roll) and is growing fast as the popularity of the school in the local community grows. Pupil numbers have almost doubled over the last 5 years and we are now oversubscribed.

We are also proud to boast an average class size of just 26 pupils.

The school was judged to be ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2022 and has since continued on a further journey of rapid progress. These are exciting times for the school and it is an exciting time to be considering joining us. We are an associate member of Cidari Multi Academy Trust and, as such, we work closely and share values and approaches with St Georges C of E Academy in Blackpool and Baines School in Poulton-le-Fylde. We sometimes share staff, professional development and leadership opportunities.

We do things here the ‘Fleetwood Way’, and our HEART values are at the centre of all we do. We have always seen ourselves as one big family here at Fleetwood High School, and that is reflected in our extremely low rate of staff turnover. Our team recognise the potential possessed by all our children, and they go the extra mile to make sure they realise that potential. This is a school where you can make a real difference.

When people visit our school, they are really impressed with the facilities, the close working relationships between our staff members and most importantly our children. We always encourage visits from candidates, and our school tours are carried out by our Head Boy and Head Girl. We feel this is the best way for any potential candidate to get a real feel for our amazing school.

Values and vision

Our goal is for students to be happy and safe within a stimulating, well-ordered and challenging environment that promotes a healthy lifestyle. A climate of mutual respect and achievement, combined with excellent attendance, is embraced to create confident, articulate young people determined to make a positive contribution to their community.

Through an extensive range of partnerships, Fleetwood High School also seeks to develop key aspects of community life.
