Job overview
TEACHER OF Drama (Maternity Cover)
FULL TIME (ECT / MPS / UPS)
January 2025 start
We are seeking to appoint a full time temporary teacher of Drama.
First and foremost, we require a teacher who can build excellent relationships with students. We are also seeking to appoint somebody with a good sense of humour and who enjoys working in a team. These are hugely important qualities in terms of collaborative working, but also in getting the very best out of our students.
Subject knowledge is important, as is an up-to-date knowledge of the latest developments in Drama. The successful candidate will thoroughly enjoy teaching their subject and understand the importance of Drama in contributing to our students’ wider development. Our Drama department is very strong with a history of outstanding outcomes over many years. A contribution to the extra-curricular life of the school is essential.
In return, we offer lower than average teaching loads, a flexible working arrangement, a wellbeing week and a strong commitment to staff wellbeing (social events, additional payed activities and opportunities to earn time off in lieu). We have also introduced a private medical insurance scheme.
The general staff body is very stable and experienced. We have a highly committed team who always ‘go the extra mile’ for the school and community. All staff are expected to contribute to the development of new resources and to work collaboratively with others. We also offer excellent professional development opportunities and a wide range of facilities.
The school was inspected in 2019 remains ‘Good’ following a Section 8 Ofsted Inspection. Outcomes are also strong at our school. We consider many aspects of our provision to be excellent and we are now working to secure even further improvements at the school.
Standards of behaviour are very good and families are generally very supportive. We do not tolerate poor choices. As a new member of staff, you will find the school to be an extremely welcoming environment to teach in.
The school adheres to all safer recruitment practices.
This is a superb opportunity to come and join a school where you will make a genuine difference as well as having a great work life balance.

Salendine Nook High School is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary 11-16 school situated in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
Attainment in entry is higher than average in all year groups. Over half of the students on roll come to us with high prior attainment based upon Key Stage 2 SATs. Our students generally arrive with high levels of literacy and numeracy. This means that expectations are high in terms of expected progress over the five years of secondary education. The parent body is also generally very supportive. We are a larger than average secondary school providing approximately 1350 places for students. The school is oversubscribed in all year groups.
The school converted to academy status in February 2012. It is sponsored by a single-academy trust called the Salendine Nook Academy Trust.
