Job overview

Teacher of Food and Nutrition

MPS/UPS (fixed term in the first instance)

Full Time: Whilst we are looking to appoint on a full-time basis, as part of our commitment to flexible working, we will accept applications from colleagues looking for part-time work.

Fixed Term: Fixed Term from 1st February 2025 – 31st December 2025, in the first instance.

Start Date: 1st February 2025

Salary: MPS/UPS (£30,000 - £46,525)

About the role:

We are seeking to appoint from the 1st February 2025 a fixed term teacher of food and nutrition to cover a maternity leave. We have a good track record of fixed term positions becoming permanent if this meets the needs of the successful candidate. As part of our commitment to flexible working, we are able to consider requests for full-time or part-time work. When applying, please specify your preference. Food is delivered as part of our key stage 3 design and technology curriculum, with GCSE food and nutrition being a popular option choice at key stage 4. A handover period has been included in the contract so that you will be able to prepare for the role and liaise with the colleague who is due to go on maternity leave.

Hathershaw College

The Hathershaw College is a very successful and oversubscribed 11-16 Academy within the Pinnacle Learning Trust, which consists of ourselves, Oldham Sixth Form College, Werneth Primary School, Broadfield Primary School and Alexandra Park Primary School. We are also well located with good public transport links and excellent access to the motorway network.

You will see from our Ofsted report published in January 2022 that we have retained our good status. I would advise you to read the excellent report before applying. Key highlights from this include: “Pupils behave sensibly around the school and in lessons. They are respectful to other pupils, staff and visitors.” “Staff value the steps that leaders have taken to ease their workload and support their well-being.” Senior leaders have taken radical steps to manage the workload and well-being of colleagues by reducing unnecessary burdens and bureaucracy. These actions were rated highly in the most recent staff survey, which takes place on annual basis.

The Pinnacle Learning Trust

We celebrate students’ uniqueness and support our young people to flourish and become responsible, successful citizens who contribute positively to their communities. Our Trust invests in each member of staff, offering them professional development opportunities, including designation as Evidence Leads in Education for the Research School; delivery of school-to-school support; CPD facilitation and support for trainee teachers.  Staff have access to opportunities to develop their teaching practice, such as training on metacognition, virtual classroom coaching and retrieval practice. As a Trust, we celebrate diversity by encouraging an understanding of our communities, faiths and cultures.
