Job overview

Rossall School is among the most successful and prestigious independent boarding and day schools in the North West with flourishing pupil numbers.

With an enticing and highly aspirational culture, Rossall School is offering opportunities for exceptional educators to come and work with supremely talented, inspiring and compassionate professionals to teach our hard working, ambitious and delightful pupils.

We are seeking an inspiring, enthusiastic Teacher of Mathematics to join our dynamic department in 2025.

The successful applicant will be an outstanding teacher with a strong commitment to ensuring that all pupils achieve excellent examination results (from a value-added perspective) and develop their passion and interest in this multifaceted, vital subject.

This would be a fantastic opportunity for an ECT or Trainee teacher to join a highly supportive, hugely successful and strong department.

Students study the Edexcel IGCSE in Mathematics with virtually all sitting the Higher Tier paper. A recent redesign of the KS3 curriculum has been undertaken to offer greater challenge and faster progress whilst building the strong foundations necessary to begin the IGCSE in year 9. In the Sixth form we offer A-Level Maths and Further Maths as well as teaching the subject at Higher and Standard Level in the IB. All colleagues are encouraged to teach across the age, ability and course range, where appropriate.

The Mathematics team is dedicated to continuous improvement, fostering a culture of driven, passionate, and innovative staff. Teachers actively participate in continuous professional development and integrate research into their teaching practices.

Some of our international students study Maths in dedicated classes as part of our offer for the Sixth Form preparation programme; there are approximately 30 students following a one-year IGCSE course which prepares them for Sixth Form study with us. Some younger students in Years 7 to 10 occasionally have separate lessons too due to their exceptional talent.

Pupils are encouraged to participate in a number of mathematical competitions, the most common of which are those run by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT). Pupils take part in both the individual written paper competitions as well as the Senior and Junior Team events. We have had great success in recent years and the feats of our successful pupils have been an inspiration to others. In recent years we have also been participating in the National Cipher Competition, which has proved popular with our older pupils.

The department is well-resourced with Interactive TVs in all classrooms, as well as a large office for resources. The use of ICT in teaching is enabled and encouraged and all pupils have access to a learning device in the lesson.

Pupils at Rossall enjoy Mathematics, and a significant proportion choose to continue to study it in the Sixth Form, with healthy numbers opting each year for Further Maths. An encouraging number of students go on to study Mathematics and related subjects at universities across the UK and the rest of the World.
