Salary:                   MPS/UPS (Outer London)

Place of Work:    Vyners School

Start date:            February 2024

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a dynamic suitably qualified teacher of Science, who has a real passion for the subject and is capable of teaching across all key stages, with the capability of inspiring, challenging and stimulating students.  The post would equally suit an early career or experienced teacher who has obtained a good degree in Science.  The ability or willingness to teach Chemistry to A Level is desirable but not essential.

At Vyners you will join a well-established Science department and become part of a supportive and aspirational team.  Our Science Department is hard working, committed and flexible.  We are well resourced and have excellent ICT resources to support learning. In KS4 students currently follow one of two pathways; GCSE Triple Science or GCSE Double Science.  Science is a very popular subject at A Level with a high proportion of students continuing with one or more sciences in the sixth form and a strong tradition of progression to Higher Education.

Vyners is a very popular and oversubscribed mixed eight form entry, 11-18 comprehensive school, situated in a pleasant residential area in North West London, bordering Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.   We have a track record of real success at all Key Stages. In 2024, 81% of students achieved grades 9-4 in both English and Maths at GCSE and we are consistently ranked in the top 10% of all schools nationally for progress measures and attainment.  At A-Level 26% of all grades were A* - A and 50% A* - B.  The school converted to academy status on 1 November 2011 and is part of the Vanguard Learning Trust which also includes one other secondary and three primary schools.

We are well known for high academic standards, good behaviour, and our strong community spirit including a strong house system with students leading their peers.  “Pupils have a positive attitude towards their work and enjoy learning” (Ofsted 2018).  Many students are involved in extracurricular sport, music and drama, performing at a high level including prestigious public events and performing in our own school productions.

We offer you:

  •  A well established and well respected Continual Professional Development program.
  • Creative opportunities and mentoring for continual career progression.
  • A friendly, innovative and exciting community in which to work.
  • A lively and supportive team of specialist Science achieving excellent results.
  • A comprehensive and first class new employee induction programme.
  • An annual two day Staff Conference with excellent keynote speakers.
  • Excellent facilities including Interactive whiteboards, onsite gym, car parking and access to local transport.

As part of the Vanguard Learning Trust, we also offer staff developmental opportunities via the Trust and support from other professionals in the same role across the Trust schools.

Values and vision

The Vyners School values were developed by governors, students, parents and staff in 2013. They are: community, aspiration, respect and endeavour. Vyners School encourages students to be resilient, unafraid to take calculated risks and make mistakes. Its values, the school hopes, will help pupils to stretch themselves, because the most valuable learning often takes place outside their comfort zone.

The school seeks to blend a 21st-century education with more traditional behavioural and uniform standards. It aims to produce rounded and grounded young people who will make a positive contribution to the world. Vyners School specialises in mathematics and computing.

Ofsted report

“Students achieve well and their attainment is well above average and improving in nearly all subjects and for most groups.  Teaching is good and improving rapidly. This is recognised by parents, carers and students."

“The best lessons are ambitious, helping students to work things out for themselves and achieve their very best.  Behaviour and attitudes are exceptional. All students and parents and carers are clear that the school is a safe place to learn. Relationships are positive and students embrace their learning with enthusiasm.”
