About the role

Due to expanding numbers and popularity, we are seeking to recruit an outstanding Social Sciences teacher to join our thriving humanities faculty with the opportunity to teach primarily in Key Stage 5, with the possibility down the line of expanding to GCSE.

We are looking for an excellent teacher of Psychology and Sociology, the candidate would be expected to primarily teach both subjects at A Level. We are always looking to expand our offer at both GCSE and A Level and so the ability and enthusiasm to teach other subjects would be welcomed, this could include Law, Criminology, Religious Studies, etc, however, we are more interested in getting the right candidate for the team and so we welcome all applications. Currently both Psychology and Sociology follow the AQA specification.

The current Humanities faculty is made up of seven enthusiastic, strong teachers with a variety of specialisms and responsibilities. Humanities as a faculty currently covers a range of subjects and as a consequence, the team work very closely together to support one another. Additionally, the Humanities faculty has been growing and improving in recent years, with the average GCSE Progress score in humanities subjects last year being +0.57, compared with the school’s progress score of +0.17.

Who we are looking for

  • A good degree in a specialist subject teaching qualification
  • Nationally recognised teaching qualificaton (QTS)
  • Good literacy, numeracy and general IT skills
  • The skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to teach across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5
  • show sign of consistently working towards bettering your teaching skills and abilities
  • Understanding of the current curriculum issues in relation to teaching subjects
  • Ability to effectively and appropriately use resources to enact the curriculum well
  • be flexible and responsive to an ever changing environment
  • Committment to working co-operatively with young people; able to communicate effectively and sensitively in a manner that shows high positive regard

Charnwood College is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, 11-18 academy with sixth form, situated in the west of Loughborough in Leicestershire. The academy is part of the David Ross Education Trust and is governed by a Local Governing Body.

The secondary academy has expressive arts facilities which include a dedicated music suite and dance and drama studio. In addition, its sports facilities include a floodlit, all-weather 3G sports pitch, a new sports centre, a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, a gym, a fitness suite, and extensive playing fields.
