Job overview
We are looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant to join our thriving and happy team. Tiffin School is a high achieving boys’ selective state school with a mixed Sixth Form. With a growing number of students with SEND, we are looking to further expand the department. Initially a two year fixed contract. Full time or Part time, term time only.
The majority of SEND students have either a Communication and Interaction (C&I) need, or a Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) need as their primary diagnosis. This is predominantly students with high-functioning ASC, and ADHD/ADD although we also have an increasing number of students with physical impairments (namely visual & hearing).
Over the last couple of years, the Learning Support Department has significantly grown. Led by our SENCo, we are lucky to have a Deputy SENCo in charge of KS3 and a team of 4 teaching assistants, who work to promote excellence in our students both academically and pastorally, in and out of the classroom. We also have a Therapeutic Practitioner on the team who supports students with SEND in their mental well-being. Each TA takes on responsibility for being a key worker for high need students, which ensures continuity of support and excellent parental and external agency relationships, as well as wider SEND responsibilities. Whoever joins our team should be passionate about providing outstanding support and be flexible and positive in their approach to all situations.
What the role involves:
The Teaching Assistant role involves supporting students, assisting the class teacher, helping to maintain a productive & positive learning environment and assisting with administration. You may be required to provide ad-hoc or dedicated 1:1 support to specific students and also to provide whole-class support in lessons, as well as transition times, according to your skill set.
This role will have a specific focus of widening access for SEND students.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Proactive and professional
- Confident, enthusiastic and a passionate about learning
- Proficient in English, Maths & IT skills
- Able to liaise effectively with students, staff, parents and external agencies, and endeavour to build good working relationships.
- Able to cope with the fast pace of academics, allowing our students to strive with your support.
- Willing to undertake further training to enhance their skillset
- Willing to undertake a lead on academic mentorship, organisational support or accessing wider curriculum support.
This is a great opportunity for someone who maybe considering training to teach in the future.
