Job overview

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant. This role involves caretaking and supporting an individual student who requires assistance with day-to-day activities. This would also involve communication with the SENCO, class teachers, and parents to provide feedback and any developments. Main responsibilities:

  • To provide in-class support for identified individual student
  • Under the direction of the class teacher, to assist in the management of the student through the overt modelling of effective practices to accelerate the student’s progress
  • Under the direction of the SENCO, to assist with the physical well-being of the student
  • To be familiar with the student’s care plan and provide care, encouragement and maintain dignity
  • To provide support, to include personal care, for the student experiencing physical or medical difficulties
  • To assist in the supervision of the student during break and lunchtimes
  • To provide regular feedback to the class teacher and to the SENCO, and provide data and information to inform Annual Review paperwork (or any other relevant paperwork)
  • To continue personal development in the relevant areas which may include subject knowledge and teaching methods
  • To communicate effectively with the parent(s) of students as appropriate
  • Where appropriate, to communicate and cooperate with persons or bodies outside the school
  • To engage actively in the Performance Management process
  • To participate in whole school and department professional learning programmes.

 

You will need:

 

  • GCSE Math and English Grade C/4 or equivalent
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Appropriate experience of operating in a similar role
  • Knowledge of using IT systems and packages, in particular Microsoft Office
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills and an ability to use these to have a positive input on student learning in the classroom & in small groups/1-1
