We are a diverse and vibrant 11-16 academy, based in the friendly, north-east town of Middlesbrough. The academy is on a really exciting journey of improvement. Last academic year saw significant improvements in our outcomes. We believe that we have an important role to play in our community not just as an educator, but also in supporting the wider needs of our children and families.

We pride ourselves on being a warm, welcoming and supportive academy, with a collective determination to provide our children with exceptional education, life changing opportunities and the highest level of care. Students are at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning.

The Academy became part of the Outwood Family of Schools in 2019 and as a member of the Outwood Family we believe in putting Students First, raising standards and transforming lives.

About the role/department

This is a really exciting opportunity for the right candidate to be a part of the Outwood Academy Normanby family and join us on our journey towards excellence.

The role of Teaching Assistant is an incredibly important post and vital to the success of our students who require additional support in lessons and around the academy. Our Teaching Assistants are champions for our students with additional learning needs, most of whom are on the SEND register. Support is highly individualised and is based on the needs of individual students. As a comprehensive academy, we have a wide range of needs, from Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to Moderate Learning Needs (MLD) to children who perhaps need extra help with the transition from primary school to secondary school.

This is a highly varied and diverse role which will see the post holder working closely with children from a range of year groups in lessons, providing support on a 1-1 basis, in small groups and providing support to our many interventions. You’ll be supported by the wider SEND team of experienced Teaching Assistants, Intervention Leads and led by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). Outside of this direct team, you’ll also work closely with Teachers and our highly supportive Senior Leadership Team.

We are strong believers that quality education starts at home. As such the post holder will be required to make regular contact with parents and carers, updating them on a variety of matters surrounding the children they support. Teaching Assistants will also be required to support and directly contribute to the educational and pastoral planning for children that they support.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have the highest aspirations for our children
  • Be a positive role model with the highest level of professional standards
  • Actively participate in being part of a dynamic and vibrant team
  • Be committed and passionate about making a difference to children's futures
  • Be warm, kind and compassionate in the face of the varied challenges our children face
  • Share our single goal of Student First

Outwood Grange Academies Trust provides a high-quality learning and cultural environment that inspires and motivates children. Whether you are ambitious for progression, or determined to be an outstanding member of our support team, Outwood Academy Normanby is the place for you.
