Job overview

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to join Heywood Prep and Nursery in our Prep Department, where they will make a significant contribution to the work of the School by supporting pupils and teachers in a variety of settings and ways.

The primary role is to collaborate with teachers to raise the learning and attainment of our pupils, while also promoting their independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion. The successful candidate will assist pupils in accessing our broad and balanced curriculum, participating in learning, and experiencing a sense of achievement.


Contract: Permanent contract, term time, plus 5 weeks equivalent hours in Holiday Club

Hours: 8:15am - 12pm, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays

Salary: £8,269.00 per annum

Start Date: Monday 6th January 2025

Job Description:

Responsible to: Head of Learning Enhancement

  • Support pupils' development and promote independence within a safe, secure, and challenging environment, using strategies to recognise and reward self-reliance.
  • Observe, record, and support the development and progress of pupils, identifying individual needs and providing feedback to them.
  • Assist teachers with the daily/weekly programme of lessons, activities, and events.
  • Support class teachers with administrative duties as required.
  • Take responsibility for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher, contributing to the review of systems and records as necessary.
  • Follow and implement the school's established discipline policy to anticipate and manage pupil behaviour.
  • Promote and uphold the policies and ethos of the school.
  • Supervise pupils on outings and visits as required.
  • Ensure awareness of and compliance with all school policies.
  • Treat all pupil-related information as strictly confidential and comply with school policy and practice.
  • Attend relevant courses and training sessions to update knowledge as required.


Person Specification:

  • Demonstrates a genuine interest in and knowledge of working within KS1/KS2, coupled with a strong commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
  • Possesses excellent organisational and communication skills, which are central to the role, along with the ability to take initiative, think creatively, and build strong relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents.
  • Actively contributes as a proactive member of both the school and class teams.
  • Has experience working with children in an educational setting and is ideally qualified to Level 2 or 3.

Located in the heart of Corsham, Wiltshire, the school is housed in a beautiful Grade II listed Georgian building constructed in 1776. Heywood Prep educates boys and girls from age 2 to 11. At the end of Year 6, the majority of children leave for independent senior schools in Bath and Wiltshire, many winning awards and scholarships.
