The Role
We are looking to recruit a technology technician to effectively assist all teaching staff, with technical support, in providing pupils at Philip Morant School with a relevant and outstanding Design & Technology experience and ensure high levels of achievement.
Philip Morant School has a long history of success in technology subjects. We offer a wide range of qualifications.
The technology facilities recently underwent significant investment and refurbishment and consist of: 3 food technology rooms, a multi purpose workshop for textiles and technology, a computer suite, three technology workshops.
This position would suit anyone with previous workshop, carpentry or engineering experience who is interested in a change in role. We would also welcome applications from experienced school technology technicians.

They show this in their responsiveness to instructions.” “Staff are proud to work at the school and feel valued.” We are looking for an individual who can join our team of cover supervisors who can uphold our expectations to ensure that school remains a calm and orderly place in the absence of a member of teaching staff.
- This post is 37 hours per week, 41 weeks per year (term time, plus non-pupil days and 2 weeks working during school closure periods).
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- To assist Technology staff in developing appropriate resources for teaching and learning.
- Under the direction of the Subject Leader ensure that all Health & safety/ Design Technology requirements are met, including the weekly / daily monitoring and checking of machinery, tools and equipment.
- To assist in Classroom support as agreed on the timetable (see key tasks below) including being able to prioritise for those identified students that have immediate support needs.
- To maintain and monitor consumables and equipment in Technologies to ensure all pupils are able to access a wide range materials and processes as part of their Technology provision. This is to be achieved by liaison with teaching staff, and their weekly workload.
- To assist teaching staff in promoting and raising the profile of Technologies within and outside School including displays, visits and events.
- To share in the responsibility of teaching and instructing where appropriate and directed under the guidance of Subject Leader (for planning and assessment), as and when the ‘rare’ need arises
We're looking for you if you have:
- English & Maths GCSE or equivalent at Grade C or above
- Level 3 qualification or experience in relevant area
- Knowledge and interest in design technology
- Ability to engage with young people
- Ability to use initiative and work without direct supervision, taking responsibility for tasks
- Ability to work under pressure to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Ability to exchange verbal information clearly and sensitively with children and adults

The Philip Morant School & College
Philip Morant is a popular mixed comprehensive in north-east Essex. It is a happy school in which students feel nurtured, achieve highly and are well prepared for the next stage of their education. We have made significant progress since our last Ofsted inspection, including two sets of fantastic examination results. Over the last three years students have performed well, with more students achieving strong passes (grade 5+) in both English and Maths.
Highlights include:
• 66% of students achieving a grade 5 or above in English
• 56% of students achieving a grade 5 or above in maths, with 51% achieving a grade 5 in both. This trend is increasing over time
• 20% of students achieving a grade 7 or above in English and/or Maths
• An increasing Progress 8 score which places The Philip Morant School above national
• Strengthened governance & leadership with the appointment of a Head of School, two Deputy Headteachers and new Assistant Headteachers to lead improvement in areas such as SEND, Behaviour, Personal Development and Well-being and Standards
• Revision of our curriculum to ensure that it is challenging, well-sequenced and knowledge- rich
• Further improvements in attendance & behaviour through launching and embedding a new Behaviour for Learning Policy and Anti-Bullying Policy, as well as appointing Heads of Year to lead the care, guidance and support provided for our young people

Location
The Philip Morant School is located in the Prettygate suburb of Colchester. The school is easily accessible by the A12 and is approximately 19 miles from Ipswich and 25 miles from Chelmsford. There is ample car parking on the school site. The school has excellent bus routes from Colchester North Station.
