These composer discs include information about 4 composers from each period of music history. They start at the Medieval and run through to the Romantic period. I use them by cutting them out and sticking them on to the centre of old records (45s) and using them as a large wall display in my department. The students find them very useful and informative. Have update included nationalism, 20th C and 21st C. Thanks for looking!

Music History Takeaway Homework

This is a Takeaway homework project I have been working on. It looks at different skills to help students learn about different periods of musical history. I can not take full credit for the design. I have taken the idea from http://mrcollinsmaths.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/twenty-seven-takeaway-mathematics.html which I thank Mr Collins for sharing. Amazing resource. Please feel free to adapt in any way you want. Thanks for looking!

Guide to Song writing

This is a Year 9s guide to song writing. Very barebones but excellent to promote independent learning in Year 9 music. Great way to keep the 'not takers' interested for the last 2 terms. Plenty of examples and fun activities. Only PDF copy as I can not find the originals.

This resource is a booklet to help KS3 students understand how music is used to promote products through the media. It is a bare bones booklet which fits in nicely with the SOW. The students like the freedom of the task. The assessment criteria is written by the students and then written up by me and stuck on the back page (this is why it is intentionally blank). Ofsted friendly as it promotes innovative and independent learning with minimal teacher input. I have taken inspiration for this from https://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/music-for-adverts-slide-show-3007879 by alisutcliffe

These are crib sheets I hand out to students when working through the Blues topic. They allow students to work out the note and chord progressions easily on a variety of instruments. I have noticed a increase in progress made in lesson since using them.

I use this booklet with Year 9 to explore synth pop and 1980s culture. It is used in conjunction with BandLab to re-create the intro from OMD’s Enola Gay. Includes work booklet, KOs for Enola Gay (design adapted from P. Blaylock… I think) and Synth Pop.

Folk Music - Welsh

I have created this resource for my SOW on music of the British Isles. It teaches students to sing in Welsh the infamous 'Calon Lan' as heard at all rugby matches. I have transcribed the Welsh phonetically to help with pronunciation, I have also included a copy of the sheet music for all those piano savvy teachers. Can be used by all teachers. Really fun and the kids love it. Ticks SMSC boxes in school and touched British Values as well. Any questions, drop me a message. Cheers Tom. p.s. sorry if my pronunciation of the welsh language is poor. I can speak it but not very well. LOL.
