Viva GCSE Module 3 Leer es un placer

Complete lesson for the Leer es un placer unit from Module 3 of the AQA GCSE Viva textbook. There are two PowerPoints as I ended up having to spread this unit over two lessons due to there being so much content. Activities within the PowerPoint are differentiated wherever possible as my group is very mixed ability and I try to cover all skill areas.
I have added a few bits to supplement the textbook tasks such as a photo card starter activity, trapdoor speaking task worksheet based on the text on page 59 and a vocabulary match up sheet (differentiated for lower abilities).

Viva GCSE Module 3 Consolidation Lesson

(2)
This resource is based on the AQA Viva GCSE textbook for the new 2016 specification. This lesson is to consolidate the language that we have seen so far during Module 3 - I felt that my students had taken on a great deal of vocabulary and grammar in a short space of time and wanted to spend some time revising and consolidating what we have covered so far. I taught this lesson after the 'Leer es un placer' unit. The lesson consists of some revision/consolidation activities to work through on a worksheet and also a progress tracker to fill in throughout the lesson so that students can reflect on their understanding of the module.

Cross-curricular starter activities for European Day of Languages

(2)

I have created 5 minute starter activities for a range of subjects across the curriculum in order to celebrate European Day of Languages. Each starter activity links that particular subject with languages. Each starter either involves a quick activity such as a match up task or it is a “did you know?” style information slide linking the subject to languages. The PowerPoint slides indicate which subject they refer to in the top left hand corner and there are instructions/answers underneath each slide. The idea is to make the activity as accessible and as easy as possible for other staff members to use so that they are inclined to include them in their lessons. I have sent the PowerPoint to all teaching staff in the hope that they will use them in order to support the languages department in celebrating the European Day of Languages. If successful then it will mean that the students have some exposure to language learning in all of their lessons throughout the day.
The subjects that I have included are:
Maths (x2)
English (x3)
Science (x2)
Languages (x2)
Geography (x2)
History
Religious Studies
Physical Education (x2)
Food Technology
Textiles Technology
Media Studies
Drama (x2)
Art
Psychology (x2)
Health and Social Care
Business Studies
Music
Law
Government & Politics
Computing

Preparing for the GCSE Spanish listening exam

(18)

I put this PowerPoint together to help students to prepare for the Spanish GCSE AQA Listening exam. It can probably be easily adapted to fit the Edexcel listening paper.

The PowerPoint consists of the following elements:
Overview of the exam at Foundation & Higher tier - timings etc.
Ideas for what to do during the 5 minutes of reading time
Looking at different types of questions that appear in the listening paper -
Positive/Negative/Positive & Negative - what to look out for in this type of question. A practice question of this type. The transcript for the question to highlight useful vocabulary.
Past/Present/Future - how to identify different time frames, a practice question of this type and the transcript to highlight useful indicators of different tenses.
Multiple choice - how to approach this question - looking out for distractors. Practice multiple choice question.
Final tips/advice for the exam.

For the practice questions I have used questions from the Viva GCSE higher textbook so if you do not have access to this then you will need to replace these slides with listening tasks of your own. Either taken from past/specimen papers or from the textbook you use. I believe the Edexcel textbook is very similar so they might well be the same listening tasks.

I have typed my notes at the bottom of each slide just to explain what I did when teaching this lesson.

I hope it proves to be of use to some of you!
