Note: I had students wearing lanyards with a significant person inside. They represented this person, there were some excellent impersonations! You could also have students holding the card A3 or A4. There are 15 different, differentiated cards. (some have harder text) Key topic: The British Empire Lesson title: Who was the most significant ‘empire builder’? Bronze: Understand the extent of the British Empire Silver: Describe how some people helped build the British Empire Gold: Judge the most significant ‘empire builder’. A lesson which introduces the empire and some important individuals in 1 or 2 lessons. Critical thinking starter- Historical faces. Who are these people and why are they famous? Establish significance If these are the answers, then what are the questions? 2 minute paired discussion linked to bronze.
