This can be used either as a teaching aid to help with the chronology, or printed off and laminated as a display. I have it hanging on a washing line from my ceiling and the children refer to it quite regularly. Hope it's useful.

Jeux Olympiques

<p>A lesson using CLIL (content language integrated learning) to teach about the Olympics in French. I used this to build upon a previous lesson (conducted in English) where we had learnt about the history of the Olympics as part of our Greeks topic. That had dealt with the first olympics in 776BC until they stopped around 1,000 years later. This lesson deals with how a Frenchman resurrected the Olympics in 1896. It briefly recaps the history in English then continues in French. We finish with a prediction game to practice sporting vocab. A bit complicated but I hope it makes sense!</p>

<p>A few problem solving activities related to the world cup. Can be used in a lesson or printed off as part of a display. We are focussing on problem solving this term, so I’m looking for real life opportunities everywhere. Topics also included: using and applying number.</p>

How the Bible came to be in English

This is a powerpoint I used as part of the RE unit 'Writings,' which also ties in well with our Tudor topic. It explains the underground movement of Bible translation by people like Luther and Tyndale, Henry VIII's separation from Rome for his own personal reasons, and how eventually the Bible was available to ordinary people in English, rather than Latin. Please note that for best effect, I would read the Latin text before I show it on the screen, as this enables the children to feel what it is like to have something read to you that you do not understand.

<p>Some of the most well known French speaking footballers introduce themselves in French. There may be too many slides in this powerpoint, so you may want to choose which ones to use. Helps to reinforce basic vocabulary of how to introduce yourself in French, plus some football vocabulary for the World Cup. Allez les bleus!</p>

French footballers - Euro 2016

A powerpoint with some of the most well known French footballers playing in the French team this summer. This can be used as a display or teaching resource. I print them off, laminate and stick around the school. Sorry that there are 10 rather than 11 but I have gone for the best known and am waiting to see who Didier picks in his starting line up. Hope it's useful.<br /> <br /> Typically, France's top scorer wasn't on my powerpoint, so I have now added him! Sorry that this is rather too late, but I thought it might be useful for some who might want to use the slides after the Euros finish.<br /> Thank you for all the kind comments and Allez les bleus!

This quotation by MM was shared as he was about to deliver the Richard Dimbleby lecture this year. I immediately thought that this needs to be on my classroom wall, hopefully to inspire the children. I haven't yet decided which slide I will use - the one with the photo or the one with the clip art. Hope it's useful to others too.

Sheet for children to count forwards and backwards in time. The hands have been left off so that you can differentiate according to ability. I did: one group o'clocks, half past and quarter past / one group quarter past, quarter two and five minute intervals / one group all five minute intervals as their starting times.

<p>A powerpoint introducing some of the members of the French squad for the Euros, which can be used as a lesson or as a resource to be printed and displayed.</p> <p>Just to let you know that a very on-the-ball Y3 child has pointed out a couple of mistakes to me today! He pointed out that both Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane play for Real Madrid, not Bayern Munich. I have edited the powerpoint and I hope it’s now ok. Apologies!</p> <p>There is also a document with all the qualifying teams for you to allocate countries to your class.</p>

<p>Every major tournament, I print out and laminate pictures of the most well-known French speaking footballers. I put these up around school and the children love trying to work out the meanings of the words. I’ve also added some slides at the end that you could use in class to discuss vocabulary and for the children to write their own profile.<br /> Please let me know if there are any errors. I learnt today that you say “Je viens de France” rather than “Je viens de la France,” which is what I’ve always used in the past.<br /> Enjoy and Allez les bleus!!!</p>

A powerpoint presentation based on the Channel 4 programme broadcast recently based on a survey by The Times newspaper. I am going to print this out, cut slides 3-11 in half horizontally and put up as a border above my reading area. Slides 1-2 are title slides. The aim is to encourage children to read more widely, especially those books that come recommended by others. Feel free to adapt.
