Sentence Practice Sheets

(23)
A set of 6 different scenes, keywords, space for writing and sentece reminders. I use these in 'quiet time' (I hear a group of children read 1:1 whilst others get on with consolidation tasks independently). I give them a green pen to write the capital letter at the start of each sentence and a red pen to do the full stops - they really respond to this.

Matching Amounts to Numerals - Numicon Shapes

(25)
I have made these to be used alongside Numicon shapes and boards. These can be cut up and laminated to make playing cards to facilitate matching games (pairs, snap, numicon number hunts etc.). I'll be giving them to the children in my intervention group to take home.

Identifying changes to the environment

(26)
3 slightly differentiated worksheets which use 2 views from Jeannie Baker's 'Window'. Children have to identify physical and human features and explain how and why the view changes over time. *** I have also uploaded the recording sheets as Word documents at the request of other users - so please note that the Word files are just a duplicate of the Publisher file. Please also be aware that the formatting may be slightly out of allignment in Word - I tried my best to get it looking as good as the Publisher version.

Settings - Send a message in a bottle

(13)
A week's plan and supporting resources for exploration of settings. The children imagine they are onboard a boat - they hit a storm and get washed up in a setting of their choice (they can be on a tropical island or abducted by aliens and taken to space - the choice is theirs). Please note, my IWB was broken when I did this plan so no IWB to support this, apologies.

Animal Stretches

(16)

A very simple powerpoint of simple warm-up stretches. I have named each one after an animal and display these images on the IWB in our gymnastics hall whilst warming up. As I explain the stretches I find it useful to show the images - they are especially helpful for EAL and SEN children.

Hungry Owls - Add and Subtract Game

(10)
A simple board game which fits around our theme of Owl Babies. Each child has an owl and rolls a dice to move around the board. As they land on the stepping stones they may collect or lose worms. Each child tracks their score, adding and subtracting worms as they move around the board. I am going to copy to A3 and laminate. I will give my children whiteboards and pens to record their scores. I will provide worms in the form of dried pasta shapes. Made with Publisher 2010 and Sassoon Primary Font - you should be able to edit the boards easily if you have both of these installed.

There are 2 different grids which I used in guided writing sessions with my HA year 1 pupils. I found the grids helped to structure their ideas. Watch out though as changing so many elements of the story can be overwhelming for some children - you may wish to adapt this. I found it worked well overall.

3 Little Pigs Materials Investigation

(38)

Made using Publisher 2007. We used the 3 pigs as a story-start method of discussing materials. The children evaluated the materials used in the story beforemaking their own shelter for a toy pig. They used materials found in the classroom. I was the big bad wolf who had to blow down the shelters with my hair-dryer. The children loved it and it generated discssion about materials and design of structures. This sheet was used in guided recording sessions. For those people who don’t know publisher, you may need to change the view option if you are only able to see the front cover.

3 Little Pigs Story Mapping / Planning

(6)
The first page shows the completed story map. On the other pages you will find 9 pictures to use with the empty mapping page. I pre-cut all the pictures and groups worked independently to stick and create a map of the story themselves. I differentiated the number of pictures they needed to sequence and also provided speech bubbles for some children - they enjoyed writing dialogue for the characters. When finished, they used 'talking tins' and verbally retold the story into the recording devices which we played back in the plenary.

Levelled Reading Guidance (1C-3C)

(10)
This is a checklist to use whilst hearing children read 1:1 or in guided groups. I developed it with TAs and reading volunteers in mind. it is intended to ensure reading support and planning is tailored more carefully to the needs of the child by taking into account the reading level they are working towards. I used National Curriculum descriptors and APP to develop the grids so hopefully they are accurate. I'd be keen to hear your thoughts - do you think they are useful?
