This lesson introduces the key context of the play including religion and belief, women, class an status and the monarchy and the Great Chain of Being.
Students are introduced to the moral dilemma in a modern context and then encouraged to think about predictions based on the title and images. Students are then asked to work in groups and given extremely detailed context sheets together with websites and questions for research. Groups are responsible for feeding back their research to the rest of the group. Finally, students are given some key themes to discuss how these points might be relevant to the play.
Questions, clips and links are all included.
Whilst the lesson was originally planned for the A2 Cambridge Syllabus, it could easily be adapted for other key stages and syllabuses.
