This is a power point with twelve easy to follow starters. Students should be able to read sentences and use the prompts to write their own. Each should take roughly ten minutes and is suitable for Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11.

The first eight give specific sentence structures, and prompt students to follow the structure and write their own.

For example: using ‘ing’ words:

We sat together, talking, laughing, listening, loving.
They played together, running, jumping, biting, barking.
The road unspooled on and on, rising, falling, rising, turning, falling.

Write you own sentence ending in ing words about an acrobat at a circus.

The last four prompt students to write from different points of view and give the opportunity for students to experiment with sentence structure.
