I was looking for more example essays to provide my Higher Drama pupils, but unfortunately, this is a very poor example. I don't feel it is fair to list this as an A grade essay without justifying that with a marking scheme attached. I would be interested to see where exactly the marks are coming from here. Almost no correct vocabulary is used throughout the essay, if a pupil was to do this during the exam they would not be awarded any marks. The acting concepts are not explained in detail as requested in the question and SQA marking scheme. One acting concept included in this essay for example is - 'Proctor may show his circumspection by raising an eyebrow on receipt of this accusation.' This is not a detailed acting concept, nor does it contain a single piece of Drama vocabulary, and would gain no marks in the exam. This essay also doesn't follow the A, A1, B, B1 or A, B, A1, B1 structure, making it difficult to follow for pupils. Quotes are thrown into the essay with no context, no reference to who is being spoken to or where this occurs in the play. I would not use this as an example of an A grade essay at Higher Drama at all and unfortunately have to give this one star. Very poor.
