Active Reading is an effective and engaging approach to reading comprehension lessons. It involves asking questions of the text, connecting with other books or real life experiences and clarifying unfamiliar vocabulary. It also involves summarising, inference, visualisation and evaluation. All these skills have been incorporates in these 3 sets of cards. Print them and laminate them (or not) and as children read any text you provide, they can select a card which will give them an active reading task. I have differentiated the tasks-green -higher ability yr 5/6, amber -middle ability and red -lower ability. These can be easily adapted to suit other year groups. They can be used with different texts so they will be used many times in whole class text work or in guided reading.
