The three main goals of Aprendiendo a leer español for the student are:

1. master the structures and pronunciation of the Spanish syllables,
2. master the structures and pronunciation of non-Spanish syllables used in the Spanish language, and
3. identify correctly and pronounce the stressed syllable of polysyllabic words in Spanish.

The student will begin with the review of individual sounds and will end with sentences. The student will use old words and will use new words, in context and out of context.

Teaching strategies may include cognitive organizers, textbook, maps, transparencies, videos, and illustrations.

In the appendixes, there are included footnotes, which will not be read in class. Hopefully, the student will keep this manual and review it in the near future, when your Spanish command is at a higher level; therefore, then the student will benefit a lot from those observations.
