These questions are for an approx. four and a quarter-minute video, one of a set of five. This sheet is CHEAPER if you get them all in the bundle. I’ve only listed the sheets separately in order to make the bundle.

Contains scenes which some younger viewers may find upsetting. Teacher review recommended prior to use in class.

The BBC says “Historian David Olusoga investigates the impact of slave ownership on British society, including its social and economic consequences. The figures are from detailed records of compensation to slave owners paid when slavery was abolished in 1834 across the British Empire. Olusoga uses the records to demonstrate how widespread and profitable the ownership of slaves was in Britain at the time, linking his analysis by visits to Georgian terraces in parts of London.”

Differentiated! Both versions look very similar, but “B” version has subtle clues. 17 questions for the 4’ 15” film. .doc and .pdf of all sheets, link to video on all sheets. Answer sheet. Very easy to mark.

The BBC web-page (KS3 / KS4 History: British slave owners in the 1830s) has the video and teachers’ notes.

Please check that you can access the video before you download these sheets. All the links work when I upload. If my links no longer work, the videos may still be found elsewhere on YouTube, BBC Teach etc.
