These questions are for an approx. four and a half-minute video, one of a set of five. This sheet is CHEAPER if you get them all in the bundle. I’ve only listed the sheets separately in order to make the bundle.

Contains scenes which some younger viewers may find upsetting. Teacher review recommended prior to use in class.

The BBC says “Historian David Olusoga investigates the impact of slave ownership on British society, including its social and economic consequences. He begins his narrative with the English settlement of Barbados in 1627 which resulted decades later in a lucrative sugar cane industry covering 40% of the island and cultivated by enslaved Africans. The clip emphasises the harsh and racist provisions of the code and its role in creating a slave society and economy controlled by the use of severe violence. British records quote Africans as being referred to as ‘heathenish’ and ‘brutal’.”

Differentiated! Both versions look very similar, but “B” version has subtle clues. 14 questions for the 4’ 28” film. .doc and .pdf of all sheets, link to video on all sheets. Answer sheet. Very easy to mark.

The BBC web-page (which I am not permitted to link here, so that’s not really very useful now, is it?) has the video and teachers’ notes.

Please check that you can access the video before you download these sheets. All the links work when I upload. If my links no longer work, the videos may still be found elsewhere on YouTube, BBC Teach etc.
