This PowerPoint lesson guides the class through a thorough exploration of the poem ‘A Poison Tree’. Included: contextual background to Blake, the Romantics, the collection ‘Songs of Innocence and Experience’, stanza-by-stanza analysis of language, form and meaning(s), consideration of Blake’s views about God, and interesting parallels between the poison tree (and its apple) and the temptation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis Chapter 3).
