This GCSE scheme explores the characters, themes, key quotes and context of Blood Brothers. Knowledge recall questions are placed into every lesson, as well as scaffolded writing structures, to differentiate learning for students with different abilities.
Techniques such as foreshadowing and dramatic irony are examined alongside contextual factors to encourage students to consider the playwright’s intentions. Russell’s political critique of the socio-economic status of Liverpool is foregrounded to allow students to consider the deeper, didactic messages of the play.
