Giving students the opportunity to review books lets them express themselves, practice analytical thinking, and gives them an authentic purpose for writing. It’s also a great way to build a classroom community of readers!
Try using these brochures at the beginning of the year. Students can review their favorite books and share them with the class. The brochure could also be shared with parents on Open House or Curriculum Nights - students will love seeing their parents’ signatures on the back of their review the following morning.
The book reviews could also be used at the end of a genre study, or author study, to spark renewed interest in your classroom library during the middle of the year, or to celebrate Reading Month.
