The exemplar student assessment samples are based on the sample assessment task on the Pearson website ‘Samir and Wendy’ case studies .
The pack contains:
Component 1 - A1 Task 1 assessment documents for Task 1: PIES growth and development through the life stages
Learning outcome A: Understand human growth and development across life stages and the factors that affect it
**Documents included: **
- Teacher tips and marks grids for practice for Task 1
- Student 1 – Task 1 - PIES sample work - (high ability)
- Student 2 – Task 1 - PIES sample work - (low/mid ability)
- Commentaries and estimated grades for both students on Task 1
The tasks can be used for a number of important purposes:
- Staff departmental training
- Practice assessment marking
- Avoiding common errors and misconceptions prior to internal assessment tasks
- Student class work - WAGOLL - What A Good One Looks Like!!
- Examples of student work that will help support your expectations, e.g. including referencing, correct headings and full coverage of the task
- Real student work that can be used to support other learners to perform well in their assessment
- Example commentaries and grades to help centre assessors apply the mark scheme (not these have not been verified by Pearson)
Pearson have not produced any exemplar work, so purchasing this resource will give teachers an advantage over other centres.
Allows teachers to set clear expectations for students of the standard of work they can produce and what to avoid and avoid common mistakes.
It will also enable practice marking and feedback ahead of conducting the controlled assessments, which could be daunting for some teachers on this new course.

I have one question about these resources I would value your help with: if a centre is doing the Unit 1 Human Lifespan unit as a written exam set by the exam board, would these answers apply? They seem to be answers that have been completed as coursework? Many thanks!
Thank you, I'll be able to use these resources in department CPD and in class preparation for the new controlled assessment for Component 1. I was actually surprised and annoyed BTEC hadn't produced sample work themselves for this course as it leaves teachers in the dark, I feel a bit more confident now I've read through these docs, good assessment commentaries btw.
