The students will celebrate Chinese New Year by acknowledging the year of the pig (2019) by designing and creating a functioning piggy bank that can be walked like a pet out of recyclable materials such as the water bottle for the body. They will learn the significance and origins of the changing of the animal symbols for each year. They will also learn and practice saving their earnings from their allowance for something that they are working towards saving for such as a physical thing or a donation and will have a physical visualization of the amount that they saved by looking through the piggy bank. Lesson can be modified to the current year’s animal. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.
