Looking for a fun, hands-on activity to practise area and perimeter this Christmas? Then, your students will enjoy colouring and cutting out presents, calculating their area and perimeter, and then stacking them to make a display for the wall.

There are two recording sheets to choose from, depending on whether you’re using centimetres or inches, plus an extra one for your early finishers or children that need more of a challenge.

There are two sizes to choose from. To give you some idea of the tallest possible height, the smaller size option would reach an approximate height of 57cm/22.5in. The larger size option would reach an approximate height of 1m/3ft.

I’ve also included two display phrases to choose from:

  • We’ve got area and perimeter all wrapped up!
  • Our area and perimeter skills stack up!

Ideas for use:

  • whole class
  • center
  • station
  • early finishers
  • Fun Friday

I hope your students have fun practising their area and perimeter skills, and decorating the classroom at the same time.
