Charles Rozell Swindoll is an evangelical Christian pastor, author, educator and radio preacher. In 1979 he founded Insight for Living a radio program which today is broadcast on more than 2,000 stations around the world in 15 languages. In July 1994 he became President of Dallas Theological College (DTC)- he is now Chancellor. In 1998 he founded Stonebriar Community Church (SCC) in Frisco, Texas.

He was born with a stutter and credits his drama teacher, Dick Niema, for helping him to manage it.

While at school he was part of the marching band and learned to play all the instruments in the woodwind section. He fulfilled his military obligation with the US Marine Corps and played in their marching band.

In 1959 he attended Dallas Theological Seminary. In 1963 he graduated magna cum laude

Charles was ordained in 1963. He has held 4 pastorate roles. He spent 2 years in Dallas. 2 years in Waltham Massachusetts (1965-7). 4 years at Irving, Texas (1967-71). 23 years at Fullerton, California (1971-94). He started his current senior pastorate in Frisco, Texas in 1998.

The roots for Insight for Living goes back to the summer of 1977 when his sermons from First Evangelical Free church in Fullerton were broadcast on the radio. The 30 minute daily radio broadcast program is still heard on more than 2,100 stations, as well as web and podcasts and translated into 15 languages.

Aged 86, on October 18th 2020, he continues to broadcast.

Charles founded Stonebriar Community Church (SCC) in 1998. The first services were held at Collin County College ( now Collin College) then it moved to its permanent home on Legendary Drive as the congregation grew from 100s to 1,000s. Many of the pastors are former graduates from Dallas Theological Seminary. The church is known for its missionary work in India and other countries.

He has written more than 70 books - most are based on research and preparation for sermons preached each Sunday. ( See Selected Publications)

In celebration of its 50th anniversary** Christianity Today** named Charles as one of the top 25 most influential preachers of the past 50 years (1956-2006).

Charles or Chuck Swindoll is still in the pulpit preaching ‘Jesus saves’ as he nears his 86 birthday…
