A word bank of 35 common contractions and their full forms. This word list is a useful resource for pupils who are learning about apostrophes and as a word mat when writing non-fiction genres such as diary entries, informal letters and other informal texts, as well as fiction writing, especially dialogue.

Contractions are words that are made by combining two words together but omitting some letters and replacing these with apostrophes.

Each set of words is presented above the shortened form with its apostrophe for omission.

The word bank can be printed onto A4 to be used as a handy desk-top resource or enlarged onto A3 paper and displayed on the wall of your classroom.
