Communication & Language Assessment tool - Primary

A simple and easy to use assessment tool to help you decipher which age band a child is functioning at for Communication & Language from 18 months to 11 years - covering the entire primary phase. The tool is based on the ‘I Can’ statements from the ‘Universally Speaking Stages of Speech and Language Development’ and the ‘Speech and Language UK - Talking Point - Ages and Stages’ documents.

The tool is split into four key areas so that is also easy to identify whether a child has gaps in one particular area or strand or is working universally below or above age related expectations.

The strands are:

Listening and attention
Understanding
Speech sounds and talk
Social skills

The tool can be highlighted and dated which can then be used to identify targets and next steps for the child and show progress. It also helps to build a profile of evidence around communication and language to aid discussions with parents and professionals.
