LESSON 12-13 IN THE SERIES. This double- lesson resource is part of a tailored unit to help students understand the differences between writing for Component 1 and 2. I have designed the ‘HUMANS’ and ‘The RETURNED’ lessons separately so as to focus on all of RAIL (Representation, Audience, Industry and Language (Media) respectively. ‘THE RETURNED’ lessons will follow exactly the same format as the ‘HUMANS’’ series of lessons and will include 4 Power Points, one on each of the RAIL terms. There will also be a lesson on Narrative and Post-Modernism where both forms will be combined into one lesson due the difficulty students often have with such concepts. It is my intention to teach my students the RAIL term for ‘HUMANS’ and then ‘THE RETURNED’ to aid their compare and contrasting. This double lesson covers:

-An analysis task for students whereby they deconstruct 4 characters against a set of Rep terms.

-A group discovery learning task whereby students are assigned a synth that they are supported by with differentiated materials and digital a work sheet. These tasks are base don the bullet points that NEED to be covered as outlined in the Teacher notes. The task is as follows:

We will now go through each of the bullet points raised in the student notes that we need to cover.

We will conduct a series of tasks that will tick these off whilst creating revision resources for the whole class. You will be assigned a synth who will help you and your group with slides and prompts (see Power Point).

By the end of the lesson you will have created a revision resource on your chosen topic. Therefore, by the end of today’s lesson, you will all have a resource for each bullet point.

This task works great either in class or can be set as H/W if up against it for time. Moreover, by the end of the task, each student should have an 8 page revision resource contributed to be themselves and the rest of their peers.

NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is only providing Media Studies at A-Level, as a Two- Year Course.

If you liked this resource and found it useful, it would be greatly appreciated if you could feedback or rate my resource as I am constantly trying to adapt and refine my resources to improve the learning of my students. Many thanks.
