This is a complete lesson plan to help students write an effective piece of descriptive writing.

The focus is to help students plan and prepare a piece of creative writing and get pen to paper!

This session is appropriate to use with students studying at both Key Stages 3 or 4. No other resources are necessary except for students’ own books.

The lesson is compiled of a series of tasks based on an image and are divided as follows:
Students identify nouns on the image.
List 3 adjectives that describe their nouns.
Attempt to use alliteration, simile, metaphor, personification to their ideas.
Consider how to plan their piece.
Students read a creative writing piece.
With a new image they use the strategies from the previous tasks to produce their own piece of creative writing.
Plenary: Fill in the blanks and compile a list of eight language techniques which can be used in creative writing.

This lesson really appeals to students who don’t like to read or those who struggle to get their ideas down on paper.

A great visually appealing session plan that students really enjoy!

This resource includes the full lesson plan on both Powerpoint and PDF.
