A differentiated spelling resource focusing on variety of sounds. An opportunity for children to demonstrate spelling of word, understanding of the word, identifying type of word (adverb, verb, adjective, noun), and grapheme marking too if desired. Can be played at a whole class level or in individual groups.
- Teacher reads the word
- Children write the word on a white board and grapheme mark (if appropriate)
- Teacher gives group three options of the meaning
- Children write A,B or C
- Teacher asks whether it is a noun, adjective, verb or noun.
- Children get points for each correct aspect
Teacher can be replaced by another student/child in the classroom to make it more independent. Have also attached an answer sheet, however, I often just have them write it down on a white board.
